Commercial kitchen tiling

Slip-resistant, hygienic tiling for kitchens and food areas.

Overview

Commercial kitchens need floors that stay safe when they're wet and greasy, and surfaces that are easy to keep clean. We tile kitchens in restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals, canteens and food production sites.

What we do

  • Anti-slip porcelain and quarry tile floors
  • Coved skirting tiles for easier cleaning
  • Epoxy grout resistant to fats, acids and cleaning chemicals
  • Wall tiling behind cooking and prep areas
  • Floors laid to falls with drainage channels
  • Out-of-hours work to keep kitchens running

What to know

Slip resistance

Kitchen floors get wet and greasy, so they need a high slip resistance. A pendulum test value (PTV) of 36 or more is generally regarded as low slip potential.

Hygiene

Coved skirting removes the hard corner between floor and wall, and epoxy grout doesn't absorb fats and liquids the way cement grout can.

Downtime

We can work overnight or in phases so a kitchen can keep serving.

How we work on site

In commercial kitchens we lay floors to falls where needed, use slip-resistant tiles and epoxy grout, and plan the work around service times.

  • We keep dust down with vacuums and dust extractors and clean up as we go.
  • We protect finished work and surrounding areas, and leave the site clean and tidy every day.
  • We work evenings, nights and weekends when a programme or opening hours call for it.
  • Both of us are enhanced DBS checked, hold CSCS cards and are trained in COSHH, manual handling, abrasive wheels and asbestos and silica awareness.

Common questions

Quarry tiles or porcelain?

Both work well. Quarry tiles are a traditional, tough choice. Anti-slip porcelain gives a wider choice of finishes. The right one depends on the kitchen and the budget.

Do you tile food production areas?

Yes, including factories, bakeries and other food sites.

Can you regrout a kitchen floor instead of retiling?

Often, yes. If the tiles are sound, replacing worn grout with epoxy can make a big difference for far less than a retile.

Will the kitchen pass hygiene inspections?

Sealed, well-filled epoxy joints and coved skirting make kitchens much easier to keep clean. The rest depends on your cleaning regime.
