Anti-slip tiled flooring

Slip-resistant tiles matched to how each area is used.

Overview

Slips are one of the most common causes of injury in workplaces and public buildings. We help you choose and fit tiles with the right slip resistance for entrances, kitchens, wet areas, ramps and pool surrounds.

What we do

  • Advice on slip ratings for each area
  • R-rated tiles for shod areas
  • A, B and C rated tiles for barefoot areas
  • Entrance areas, ramps and steps
  • Commercial kitchens and food areas
  • Pool surrounds and changing rooms

What to know

R ratings (R9 to R13)

A ramp test for areas where people wear shoes. R9 suits dry areas; R10 and R11 suit most commercial areas that can get wet; R12 and R13 are for very wet or greasy areas.

A, B and C ratings

A ramp test for barefoot areas. Class A suits dry barefoot areas, class B showers and changing rooms, and class C pool surrounds and steps into water.

Pendulum test (PTV)

Many UK specifiers and the HSE use the pendulum test, which can be carried out on site. A PTV of 36 or more is generally regarded as low slip potential.

How we work on site

For anti-slip floors we look at how each area is actually used (wet entrance, kitchen, shower or dry corridor) and match the tile's slip rating to it.

  • We keep dust down with vacuums and dust extractors and clean up as we go.
  • We protect finished work and surrounding areas, and leave the site clean and tidy every day.
  • We work evenings, nights and weekends when a programme or opening hours call for it.
  • Both of us are enhanced DBS checked, hold CSCS cards and are trained in COSHH, manual handling, abrasive wheels and asbestos and silica awareness.

Common questions

Are anti-slip tiles harder to clean?

Textured tiles can hold more dirt, so the cleaning regime matters. We'll balance slip resistance against cleaning for each area.

Can you improve an existing slippery floor?

Sometimes treatments help, but in many cases replacing the tiles with a suitable slip rating is the reliable fix.

Can you make an existing floor less slippery?

Sometimes. The most reliable fix is a tile with the right slip rating. Anti-slip treatments exist for some tiles, but results vary.

Are anti-slip tiles harder to clean?

More texture can mean a bit more cleaning effort. The best tile balances grip with the cleaning regime.
