Gym and leisure changing room tiling

Changing rooms, showers, wet areas and reception floors for gyms, health clubs and leisure centres, tiled to cope with water, chemicals and constant use.

Overview

Changing rooms and showers in gyms and leisure centres are some of the hardest-working tiled areas there are. They are wet for much of the day, cleaned with strong chemicals and walked on barefoot by hundreds of people, so the waterproofing, slip resistance and grout all have to be right.

We tile changing rooms, showers and wet areas, toilets and washrooms, and the reception and entrance floors that set the first impression, in gyms, health clubs, leisure centres and sports facilities.

What we tile

  • Changing rooms and locker areas
  • Showers and wet areas
  • Ice baths and hydrotherapy areas
  • Toilets and washrooms
  • Reception, entrance and corridor floors
  • Swimming pools, through our pool division PoolRevive

What matters

Barefoot slip resistance

Barefoot areas use the A, B and C classification. Changing room floors usually need at least class A, showers class B or higher, and class C suits pool surrounds and steps into water.

Waterproofing and falls

Tiles and grout are not waterproof on their own. We tank showers and wet areas before tiling, and lay floors to fall towards drains so water doesn't pond.

Hygiene and cleaning

Epoxy grout resists water, staining and cleaning chemicals far better than cement grout, so changing rooms stay cleaner and last longer.

Reception floors that last

Hard-wearing porcelain, including large-format tiles, with a slip rating suited to wet entrances. R10 and R11 suit most commercial areas that can get wet.

Planned around opening hours

We plan work around opening hours, quieter periods and closures, and can work evenings, nights and weekends to keep disruption to members and visitors low.

How we work on site

  • We keep dust down with vacuums and dust extractors and clean up as we go.
  • We protect finished work and surrounding areas, and leave the site clean and tidy every day.
  • We work evenings, nights and weekends when a programme or opening hours call for it.
  • Both of us are enhanced DBS checked, hold CSCS cards and are trained in COSHH, manual handling, abrasive wheels and asbestos and silica awareness.
  • Risk assessments, method statements and COSHH information are available on request.

Common questions

Can you tile while the gym stays open?

Yes. We can phase the work so part of the building stays in use, and work evenings, nights and weekends when opening hours call for it.

Can you regrout an existing changing room?

Yes. If the tiles are sound, regrouting with epoxy can make a tired changing room look and stay much cleaner.

Do you tile swimming pools?

Pool tiling, cleaning and regrouting are handled by our specialist pool division, PoolRevive. TileTrust tiles the changing rooms, showers and wet areas around the pool.
